2026 Red Feather Lakes Fire Protection District CWPP
What is a CWPP?
Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs) help communities assess local hazards and identify strategic investments to mitigate risk and promote preparedness. Assessments and discussions during the planning process assist fire protection districts with fire operations in the event of a wildfire and help residents and communities prioritize mitigation actions. These plans also assist with funding gaps for fuel mitigation projects since many grants require an approved CWPP.
About This CWPP
In collaboration with the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS), The Ember Alliance received funding through a Community Wildfire Defense Grant award to develop a CWPP for the Red Feather Lakes Fire Protection District. What makes this project particularly significant is its integration with larger ongoing mitigation efforts, specifically the Red Feather Lakes Area Community Wildfire Defense Project. A completed CWPP for Red Feather Lakes FPD effectively fills in the landscape for wildfire risk assessments in the area, connecting Crystal Lakes, Glacier View, Poudre Canyon, and Cherokee Meadows. The CWPP is currently under development and set to be finalized in early 2026. Community members and organizations are encouraged to check upcoming events for opportunities to participate.
